Carolyne Pascoe TWS
(Art Guild of Scarborough member for 40 years)
Artist Bio:
Carolyne who was born and raised in Toronto. As a child she knew that she wanted to be a teacher and pursed that career at University of Toronto for 4 years in the Faculty of Physical and Health Education earning her BPHE and then her Bachelor of Education degree in 1972. She always wondered if she had any artistic talent since her 3 siblings all pursued successful artistic careers. With the encouragement of Anthony J. Batten, the art teacher at her first high school where she taught, she decided to take a year away from teaching and signed up for her first art workshop.
So as a total beginner, Carolyne, started painting 40 years ago in a watercolour workshop with Martin Ahearn AWS, by the ocean in Rockport Mass. She learned how to see values, colours and how to create the feeling of atmosphere, skies and mist in her art. She has continued to be an enthusiastic “en plein air” painter! On location painting, Carolyne tries to capture not only the mood of the day but also her inner feelings towards the beauty of the landscape, sea and town that make it a unique moment in time and place. Most of Carolyne’s paintings are inspired from her travels to Europe (England, France, Italy, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and Belgium), the New England states (USA) and across Canada where she continues to paint on location to capture the beauty of all these places.
As well as painting representationally in her on-location paintings, Carolyne has enjoyed venturing into the world of abstraction in her watercolours, print making monotypes, acrylic and mixed-media work.
She has taken many workshops with some of the best Canadian and American Watercolour Artists and teachers. She also has absorbed so much information on painting from watching abstract acrylic artists and printmakers when they have done demonstrations for a variety of art clubs. Carolyne also took classes in the summer at the Blue Mountain and Haliburton School of the Arts. Soon she was asked to teach for a variety of art clubs and at Markham’s Curry’s.
She is a Platinum (50+ juried shows) Gold, Silver, & Bronze Level of Distinction- Signature Member (TWS), current Director, Past President of the Toronto Watercolour Society (TWS), and Chair of Awards and Hearts and Flowers. She is also a member of the Pine Ridge Arts Council, Don Valley Art Club, Art Guild of Scarborough, Markham Group of Artists, ECOAA (East Central Ontario Art Association), & COAA (Central Ontario Art Association), as well as an associate of the CSPWC (Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour).
Her paintings, which have received many awards have been exhibited and sold at numerous juried shows in Toronto and throughout Ontario. She also has had six successful solo shows.
Volunteerism has also been an important part of her art journey. She was honoured to receive an Ontario Volunteer Service Award for her many years of contribution to the Arts in Ontario in 2011.
Carolyne’s paintings are in private and corporate collections in: Canada, U.S.A., Europe, Asia and Australia.
