Artist Bio:

I’m primarily a self taught artist living in the Toronto area and have been painting and drawing since I was quite young.

I paint mostly in acrylic, but in the last couple of years, I have been doing some collage and mixed media. Although collage may look like a simple process, it is in fact quite challenging and using paper is very unforgiving.

Recently, I have gone back to my roots of sketching, incorporating pen, ink, watercolour and coloured pencil. I look at art as a personal journey, so I never know where it’s going to take me. Two years ago I joined the fantastic group of Toronto Urban sketchers. That has been a huge learning curve as it’s quick and spontaneous.

I have always enjoyed painting animals, and birds in particular are a favourite of mine; they always seem to have their own little personalities. I guess the same could be said for painting people in different environments. Whether it’s a bird, animal, a person or an object, I just like to paint/draw something that catches my eye and evokes a feeling or memory for me. By doing that, I hope to create that same emotion for someone else. It keeps me open to experiencing different things to paint vs the same medium or topic.

I’ve been a member of the Scarborough Art Guild and Beach Guild of Fine Art for many years and have been fortunate to win several awards for my paintings. This is always very exciting but also very humbling.

I think most of all, I enjoy meeting the different people that attend the shows. It gives me an opportunity to speak with them, answer questions and talk about my work. It still feels very exciting when someone chooses and purchases one of my pieces of work. However, the best part for me is hearing from them, why they chose that particular painting. Those stories are what make it all worth while to me as an artist.
