Perry Chow

Artist Bio:

Hi there, this is Perry Chow, a Toronto-based artist from Hong Kong. When I was a kid, I discovered that the arts brought me joy and further extended my imagination. Naturally, the interest was cultivated during my teenage years and further developed when I opted to take a visual communication course after I graduated from high school. The U.K was where I spent some years completing an Interactive Multimedia course. The works I did were mostly related to arts in various media, both for the works and my own creative process.

After years of being a graphic and web designer, I switched to an area which I never thought of – a teaching career – and became an instructor at a post-secondary institution in Hong Kong. During the time of being an instructor, MY teaching included drawings, paintings, digital arts, and some computing programmes. The knowledge I gained in these areas enabled me to further develop ideas for my art.

Besides working as a designer, I have also been working for some institutions to conduct different classes both in-person and online. I sell my arts online and through the art shows.

What inspires your artwork:

“Impression of life”

Every work I painted is a piece of my visual diary. My art is inspired from my daily life.

I have a habit of carrying a pocket sketchbook to do sketching daily and sometimes do plein air paintings. These sketches and paintings are my visual diaries. Some of the works have become paintings later.

I love to transform my feelings through objects, thereby, enriching the pieces, and allowing the viewers to feel, subjectively, how I feel. In this way, they can come to a better understanding of the unique meaning of everyday experience.

Description of your artwork:

Creating my art in a series is my favorite way to show my work. In recent years, I have developed a series “It rains…” These paintings are mainly from a view of windshield during rainy days. I was sitting inside a car, watching at the scene, feeling a bit upset. On the other hand, the distorted images paints itself and becomes a kind of beauty. I turn the music on and fall into another dimension. The same situation with different angles. It is all about how to depict your life. I decide to record the moment and develop the series.
