Ghulam Mustafa
Rainy Day at the Capital
My passion for painting came at a very early age. As a schoolboy, growing up in the Indian Subcontinent, I used to create and sell greeting cards. It didn’t bring in much money, but it nurtured a belief in me that I could make a living through art. In the late sixties, I got a job at a large multinational company as an art instructor for their executives and spouses. Later when I immigrated to Canada in 1970, I began meeting with various local artists in Montreal and learned about different art techniques.
My favorite medium is watercolor. It not only creates beautiful scenes, but it is also very challenging compared to other mediums. Over the years I gave lessons in group settings as well as to private individuals. My students ranged from elementary students to retirees, who took up art as a hobby in their Golden Years. I also taught art to handicap children and at high schools through the Montreal Protestant School Board.
My artwork has been displayed in Museums, Art Centers, and Private Collections. Notably, my paintings were used as covers for the weekly TV Times Magazine, which came along with the old Montreal Star Newspaper.
