Kathleen Ryan
Endless Summer Days, 12 x 12 Acrylic on Canvas
Like many of us, I put art aside after childhood as I pursued other interests. I spent time in the backcountry, pursued a career as a forest entomologist, travelled, and moved from my beloved prairie and boreal landscapes to southern Ontario.
Recently it was time to try something new, so I picked up my paintbrush and started exploring those intervening years on canvas. Given how I spent my time, water and trees are recurring themes in my work. Reliving backcountry paddling and backpacking trips through Canadian landscapes provides inspiration for my pieces, which was especially cathartic when we stayed close to home in those early days of the pandemic.
My work explores the outdoor world. I aim to impart mood and memory with the hope of giving the viewer a sense of place.
