Kay Minter
Misty Morning, 8 x 10 Matted, Watercolour
In the eighties, Kay Minter took part-time courses at AGO, The Toronto School of Art, and Central Technical School. While working full-time in business, she enjoyed creating original watercolour and silkscreened cards which were sold in boutique stores in the Beach, Yorkville and uptown Toronto areas. In the nineties, she earned degrees in computer science, math and teaching. Although her career in education consumed free time, she sketched and attended watercolour classes at Cedar Ridge Creative Centre. She credits her current success to the 5 years of wonderful Saturday morning classes offered by teacher, mentor and friend, Bernice Harper. After retiring, Kay began drawing and painting regularly. She continues to produce cards, mostly for friends, and to attend life drawing sessions and occasional workshops. She likes to paint outdoors or from life so that the details and unexpected moments can be included in her work. Ink, pencil, coloured pencil and watercolour are her favourite media.
Kay has exhibited in shows at the Scarborough Civic Centre, Cedar Ridge Studio Gallery and The Art Guild of Scarborough. Dandelion Greeting, a watercolour, was selected for an Arthur Show, held at The Clark Centre for the Arts. She is especially happy when her work finds its way to a new home.
