Fjaorarglijufur Iceland

Fjaorarglijufur Iceland, 18 x 24 Acrylic on Canvas

Paul Mon, a contemporary painter born in Hong Kong and raised in Canada, is renowned for his evocative depictions of Icelandic landscapes. His journey from architectural design to full-time artist is as intricate as his work. After a 35-year career in architecture and construction, Paul rediscovered his passion for painting in the spring of 2023.

Paul’s art is characterized by atmospheric depth and emotional resonance, focusing on the haunting beauty of Iceland’s glaciers and vast skies. His technique, employing palette knives, captures the rugged elegance of glacial landscapes while addressing themes of climate change. Paul’s architectural background influences his approach to color and texture, creating a harmonious bridge between built forms and natural wonders.

Affiliated with the Art Guild of Scarborough, Paul received a “Special Merit Award” for their 2024 fall art show screening. His work transcends mere photorealism, inspiring personal contemplation and emotional response in viewers.

Paul’s artistic process involves a dynamic interplay of light, atmosphere, and texture. He aims to provoke thought about the fleeting beauty of nature and the world around us. Outside of painting, Paul enjoys tennis, reflecting his appreciation for balance and movement – elements that permeate his creative endeavors.

Through his art, Paul invites viewers to consider the primal emotions and ideas beneath the surfaces of the scenes he so artfully captures.
